Graines d’Agriculteurs competition

Fondation Avril and the Academy of Agriculture supported for the first time in 2018 the « Graines d’Agriculteurs » competition, which rewards young farmers with innovative paths.

This competition, run by the Terres Innovantes des Jeunes Agriculteurs’ endowment fund, introduces new faces of farmers, promotes the sector’s profession and innovation, thereby helping to change society’s perception on agriculture by showing all the wealth and diversity of its professions. The financial contribution from Fondation Avril and the Academy of Agriculture allowed the creation of a prize: « Actor of soil preservation and fight against climate change ».

Thibault Le Masle, winner in the category “Actor of soil preservation and fight against climate change”, offered by Fondation Avril and the Academy of Agriculture

Thibault Le Masle is a poultry and pigs farmer. For him, working in harmony with nature is a leitmotif. He is involved in an agro-environmental measure (MAE) concerning the soil. Thibault uses direct sowing under vegetation cover with permanent soil cover, particularly for honey plants. In this way, Thibault reduces his impact on the environment. The procedure limits soil erosion by capturing more carbon. Hives installed on his land allow him to improve the pollination of his crops.

Created in 2016, Terres Innovantes is the endowment fund of the Young Farmers Union. Its objective is to bring the general public closer to farmers through 3 core missions: promoting farming jobs by changing the general public’s perception, enhancing the value of the agricultural sector by showing its major role in the diversity and richness of territories, and finally developing innovation by highlighting the continuous adaptation of farmers to economical, societal and technological changes.

Fermes d’Avenir

Created at the end of 2013, the Fermes d’Avenir association, has the mission to develop agroecology. Through the creation of farms, its trainings, its competitions, its publications, its participative financing platform or the events it organizes, the association has woven links with about 500 farms engaged in an agroecological approach throughout France.

In 2012, the French Agroforestry Association (AFAF) launched the Agr’eau programme to implement agro-ecology and protect water resources. Agr’eau is applied on the scale of large river basins. The historical pilot region is the Adour-Garonne basin supported in particular by the Water Agency. Agr’eau is a network of farmers, advisers, researchers and private and public stakeholders.

Conducted by a consortium of key players in the agricultural sector, initially led by Fondation Avril, the project initiated by NumAgri aims to promote value creation for French farmers by facilitating data exchanges between actors in the agricultural sector, from the farm to the consumer.

Call for Proposals – Territories with Positive Agriculture

In 2019, Fondation Avril and French government launched the call for projects « Massif central, Territories with Positive Agriculture » in order to initiate the emergence of local multi-actor projects in Massif Central (highland region, in the middle of Southern France), combining development that creates sustainable values onto territories and agricultural transitions.
